Godwin Bamigboye, Chairman, FCT Football Coaches Association of Nigeria, said on Monday that the Super Eagles deserve commendation for putting up a brilliant performance in the return-leg match against Central African Republic (CAR) on Sunday.
Bamigboye told sports journalists on Monday, that the Super Eagles’ win was a great achievement for them and the nation.
He also stated that with the win, the team was able to redeem its reputation and image back in the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“The Super Eagles players need to do much for the fans, for Nigerians to have that confidence in them.
“The Super Eagles played the return-leg against CAR and they need to go beyond this level, while they need to become charged and more corrosive.
“We need a kind of team that you will look at and say that it is ready for the task ahead, I mean the world cup qualification and the world cup proper.
Bamigboye said that the Super Eagles defeating CAR 2-0 was a great relief.
“Although Raoul Savoy, Head Coach, Les Fauves of the CAR, on Thursday described the 2-0 victory over Nigeria in Lagos as the best thing to have happened to the team.
“The Swiss-born coach said that though he had many victories in his past games, the one against Nigeria, the giants of football in Africa, was historic.
“It’s a great way to silence critics, after that odd defeat on Thursday, we were all very shocked, but then, since it’s a marathon, we trusted the Super Eagles to bounce back and that has now been achieved.
“I have no doubt in my mind that these players will again make Nigeria proud in their next match against Cape Verde and Liberia.
“Well, I am optimistic the Super Eagles will pick the maximum point, but they must be very careful in their next match in November.
“With the 2-0 win against CAR in favour of Nigeria, the country has garnered nine points from four games to occupy the top spot in Group C,” Bamigboye said.
According to him, the players should consolidate their achievements and build on the foundation that they have laid down.
”I praise the players for their hard work and dedication. I would like us to win more,” he said.
He also stressed that the technical crew of Super Eagles must be careful in formation and statistics, and they require advanced techniques for successful completion.
“They also need some special moves in certain fighting games that cancels out the effect of an opponent’s attack, especially the next game against Cape Verde.
”Liberia is going to be a tough one. The super Eagles need to get charged.
“The technical crew needs to do more, more work, the Super Eagles should be more business-like, they should not play like hybrid players.
“They should play like world class players, which I believe they are.
“The team needs better picture, future and structure that will ensure that we continue to dominate in football and to play the kind of football that our fans know us for.
“They should be able to give confidence to the fans and Nigerian citizens by that they are able to build up confidence and hope better.
”It is my very key word of advice,” he concluded.
He urged the technical crew to turn its attention on the Cape Verde, Liberia games as they would be fighting Nigeria to have a win in their next match.
“The Super Eagles of Nigeria still have a home game against Cape Verde and one away in Monrovia against Liberia.’
”The Super Eagles need to maintain the greater heights they have achieved,” he said.
Recall that goals from Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen ensured that they remained in pole position.
The team has qualified for the second round with two games remaining.
The Super Eagles now have nine points from four games in the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and would face Cape Verde and Liberia in November.
The Super Eagles have qualified for their sixth world cup finals and are keen to make their fourth successive appearance.
