The Executive Director of Project Aron Nigeria limited, Adesoji Adeniji , said the ongoing contraction of the Moshood Abiola National football pitch will be ready for used on November.
Adeniji disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the inspection of the football picth.
He said the work was awarded to them by Alhaji Aliko Dangote , under his philanthropy projects.
Adeniji said “We started this work in August and we were supposed to finish in March but unfortunately we have some hitches on the pitch.
“The drainages, the underground drainages have all collapse after several years of use before we took over the job
“This added as and additional work for and took three months to get through it.
“We change all the Sprinkler, there are 24 sprinklers working presently as we speak and we have the valves.
“We brought in the automatic score boards which can do virtually everything recording in time and playing back, fast forward and so many things,” he said
He noted that the score board as of today is 100 % finished and it can broadcast to many other countries across the world.
“The grass is in advanced stage , hopefully by the next month we should be able to hand over completely but right now we are under what you call maintenance.
“May I also let you understand that this grass is the first time its been used in the whole of Africa
” It is called Pure dynasty pas parlon grass. It was introduced by Qatar when they wanted to host the world cup and there was a challenge for them due to the climate
“Qatar for the first time with FIFA went into the production of grass. So we looked at the climate in Qatar and that of Nigeria and we find out that it is almost similar,” he added
He emphasized that : “We needed a grass that can go through that kind of Conditions (weather) and still give us the lawns green that we have today.
” We are hoping that by the time we get to the maintenance period we will get everything done and this will be the pride of everyone of us.
The Director of Facility of stadium, Muhammad Babakoby who represented by the Minister of Sports and youth development, Sunday Dare said the inspection of the stadium is to know the progress of the work of the stadium so far.
“We are here to inspect the progress so far achieved on the rehabilitation of some of the components of the Moshood Abiola stadium that Aliko Dangote , Chairman/Chief executive of the Dangote Group has undertaken .
“This involved the complete insulation of the new score board for this stadium the two of them at this stadium and the re- construction of the playground turf.
“The Honourable minister appreciates the efforts of Aliko Dangote and he invited the chief executive to come and see the progress that been made so far.
” I told you that this is been done under the philanthropic gesture of Aliko Dangote , government has no commitment in terms of the finance .
“But unfortunately the minister and Aliko Dangote can’t attend because they are at the Presidential retreat as we speak and he has directed that I introduce this to the members and press media,” he said
Recall that Chief Dare handed over the pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium to the Dangote Group, for the commencement of rehabilitation work on August 14th 2020.
