Sunday Igboho launches ‘Iru Ekun’ security outfit in Ogun, says FG will train members

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has launched the Ogun State chapter of his security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network, saying the Federal Government will determine who will train members of the organisation.

Igboho disclosed this during the formal launch of the security outfit in Ogun on Wednesday, adding that the Ogun State Government would determine where trained members would be deployed.

“The Federal Government will decide who will come and train us. The governor’s office tells us where they will place us,” Igboho said.

He said members of the security outfit would be issued identification cards after completing their training, with the process expected to be coordinated at the local government level.

“As they wrap up that training, every person will be issued an ID card at the local government level,” he added.

Igboho said the Ogun State Government had assured the organisation of its support and would also determine the monthly allowance to be paid to members.

According to him, the allowance would enable members of the security network to support their families while carrying out their duties.

“The governor has also given us assurance. They have given us support here, and they will decide what monthly allowance to provide to us, to support us, because we have wives, and we have children,” he said.

He, however, cautioned members against abusing their positions or engaging in acts that could undermine the objectives of the organisation.

“Do not engage in reckless behaviour or ruin things just because they have trained you and you have an ID card,” Igboho warned.

The activist said the broader objective of the initiative was to secure official recognition and identification for members across the South-West, allowing them to operate legitimately and contribute to efforts aimed at maintaining security and order.

He compared the proposed development of the outfit with the evolution of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, noting that the organisation grew from a relatively modest beginning into a nationwide security agency.

“This organisation we established, if we execute it properly—just like civil defence,” he said.

“They started at the market. We used to call them ‘little defence’, but they did good work with what they were doing. The Federal Government has now fully established it across all of Nigeria.”

The Ogun launch came barely a month after Igboho unveiled the Iru Ekun Security Network in Ilorin, Kwara State.

At the Kwara launch, he said the security outfit would work to reclaim forests from bandits and other criminal elements, who he accused of using forest areas as safe havens.

The development is expected to further draw attention to the growing role of community-based and regional security initiatives in complementing conventional security agencies amid persistent security challenges across parts of the country.
