The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has concluded the final phase of the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) Curriculum Development Workshop for personnel of its Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Command.
The workshop, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on July 23, marked the completion of a Train-the-Trainers initiative aimed at institutionalising specialised knowledge on countering weapons of mass destruction and strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to prevent, detect, respond to and investigate chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats.
High-level delegations at the event included the DTRA team led by Major Brittany Brown, the ONSA delegation headed by Mrs. Pamela West, and the EOD-CBRN Command led by Commissioner of Police Hauwa Ibrahim.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, said the growing complexity of weapons of mass destruction requires proactive policing, sustained operational training and stronger collaboration among security agencies and international partners.
He described the workshop as a strategic investment in the Force’s operational readiness to protect lives, secure critical infrastructure and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
Nadada also conveyed the Inspector-General’s appreciation to DTRA and ONSA for their continued support and urged participants to uphold professionalism while transferring the knowledge gained to other personnel across the Force.
In her remarks, Commissioner of Police Hauwa Ibrahim thanked DTRA and ONSA for supporting the development of the curriculum and reaffirmed the EOD-CBRN Command’s commitment to integrating the C-WMD framework into standard police training.
She also called for sustained collaboration in specialised equipment acquisition, technical support and advanced capacity building.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to deepening inter-agency cooperation and international partnerships as part of efforts to strengthen specialised operational capabilities in line with global best practices.
