The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has assured customers, stakeholders and the general public that its operations remain uninterrupted following the fire incident that affected part of its headquarters in Abuja on Saturday night.
The reassurance comes after a fire broke out on the second floor of the bank’s headquarters located in the Central Business District of Abuja. Emergency responders swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the building and averting what could have been a more serious incident.
Following the fire, officials of the bank immediately commenced an assessment of the affected areas to determine the extent of the damage, while investigations into the cause of the incident were launched.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Group Head of Corporate Communications, Joe Abuku, said the situation had been brought under control and that the bank’s services had continued without disruption.
According to him, “The fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to other parts of the building. Whilst there has been some damage to office furniture, equipment and appliances in the affected areas, we are grateful to report that official documents that were affected are securely backed up electronically, with cloud storage, thanks to the Bank’s digital transformation measures.”
Abuku said the bank’s digital infrastructure ensured that no critical records were lost, allowing normal business operations to continue despite the incident.
He added that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, saying, “Investigations and evaluations to establish the cause of the fire are still ongoing.”
The bank reiterated its commitment to delivering seamless mortgage and housing finance services to Nigerians, assuring customers that all its operations across the country remain fully functional while relevant authorities conclude their investigation into the incident.
