The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is meeting with key party stakeholders in Abuja to formally present Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The high-level meeting, currently underway at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, has drawn members of the party’s National Working Committee, governors, lawmakers and other senior APC leaders as preparations for the next general election gather momentum.
Party sources said the gathering is expected to ratify and publicly affirm Shettima’s position as Tinubu’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 poll, effectively ending weeks of speculation over the composition of the APC presidential ticket.
The move is seen as a significant step in consolidating the ruling party’s campaign structure ahead of the election, with party leaders expected to rally support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.Vice President Shettima, a former governor of Borno State, was first nominated as Tinubu’s running mate during the 2023 presidential election, a ticket that went on to secure victory at the polls.
Political observers say the formal presentation of Shettima by the party leadership could signal the APC’s determination to maintain continuity within the administration while strengthening internal cohesion ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested election cycle.
