Nigeria and Morocco began their quests to qualify for the ITF World Wheelchair qualifiers on a good note recording easy victories over their respective opponents.
The Team Nigeria led by old war horse Wasiu Yusuf defeated Egypt and West African neighbours, Ghana 4\0 while Africa number seed Morocco beat Southern African country Rwanda 2/0.
Nigeria’s number 3 female player Chitura Nwaozuzu began the campaign on high note with a 6/0 6/1 victory over Egyptian number 2, Neama Hammed.
This was followed by another victory by Nigeria’s number 1, Kafayat Omisore who also recorded the same margin over her opponent Emma Hassan also of Egypt.
In the men’s category, Williams Ukari continued with the dominance over Ghana’s Daniel Laryea with a 6/0 6/2 victory before Yusuf now made 4/0 for Nigeria with a 6/2 6/1 victory over Ghana’s number 1, Benard Yawson.
For the Moroccans, they easily made a mincemeat of with 2/0 victory recorded by Said Himan and Lhaj Boukatacha.
Six countries Egypt, Rwanda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco including Nigeria are vying for the qualification tickets for both male and female World Cup holding in Portugal in June.
Speaking on Nigeria’s chances, Coach of the team, Frank Termena expressed optimism that his wards will qualify.
