Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Capital Territory, FCT HON. BLESSING ONUH has said that the committee is ready to collaborate with the Minister of FCT, MOHAMMED BELLO to develop the FCT, Nigeria’s capital city.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with sunrisetimes.com.ng on the floor of the GREEN CHAMBER , HON. BLESSING ONUH representing OTUKPO/OHIMINI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY in the National Assembly said the 9TH ASSEMBLY is targeting an all round development in the country as such the need to collaborate with the Executive to provide the needed development to the people.
According her, the HOUSE COMMITTEE on FCT led by HON. ABDULLAHI GARBA is poised to see the Federal capital city develop in a manner that can compete with other capital cities across the Globe.
On the current crime rate in the FCT, ONUH said the Minister will as a matter of urgency in collaboration with the security agencies and the National Assembly as well as the residents tackle the menace headlong.
ONUH however noted that some of the Agencies saddled with the responsibilities of developing the Capital city were created without legal backings as such they are a clog in the wheel of progress of the FCT ADMINISTRATION. She insisted that the current NATIONAL ASSEMBLY as constituted is ready to assist with the legal aspect to enable the Minister and his team carry out their work without hitches.
“We are ready to provide any assistance required from us by the minister of FCT to enable him and his team get rid of these criminals who post threat on a daily basis to residents of the capital city including using legislations.
“From what I have seen so far the minister of FCT, Mohammed Bello, has what it takes , and coupled with what he achieved in his first tenure to provide the needed development to the residents of FCT within the next four years.
“Remember FCT play host to the members of the executive, legislators and the judiciary as well as other Nigerians and international communities, therefore the need for critical development in the city.
On the need to complete all the ongoing projects in the Capital city as well as the satellite towns, as promised by the minister, she said during the budget defense, the committee will do its best in appropriating the required funds for the completion of the ongoing projects, stressing that the 9TH ASSEMBLY is interested in seeing completed projects not abandoned ones.
Meanwhile, HON. ONUH, a one-time Secretary of SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT in the FCT believes that with the experience gained in running the SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SECRETARIAT and support from her committee chairman and other committee members they are sure to carry out thorough oversight functions with the view to assisting in the development of the city Capital.
