Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have launched a major offensive against four notorious terrorist kingpins—Dogo Gide, Najaja, Nasanda and Buba Oris—neutralising scores of fighters and disrupting a planned large-scale terrorist operation in Zamfara State.
Security sources said the coordinated air and ground operation followed credible intelligence indicating that hundreds of armed terrorists had assembled along the Bayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area under the command of the four terrorist leaders.
The sources disclosed that the terrorists were preparing to launch coordinated attacks across parts of Zamfara State and neighbouring communities before the military intercepted their plans.
Acting on the intelligence, Operation FANSAN YAMMA deployed precision air strikes on identified terrorist locations at Barayan Zaki and strategic crossing points along the Bayarzaki Riverline.
At the same time, troops of the 8 Division Strike Force established ambush positions and launched exploitation operations at first light to intercept the fleeing terrorists.
The combined air and ground assault disrupted the terrorists’ movement, forcing them to abandon their positions and retreat toward Barayan Zaki while attempting to cross the Gummi–Anka Main Supply Route.
Troops immediately launched aggressive pursuit operations along the identified escape routes to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
The pursuit culminated in a fierce gun battle at Kombo High Ground along the Anka–Gummi road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
Military sources said troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, killing scores of fighters and forcing the survivors to flee into nearby forests.
One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka for treatment.
The military confirmed that no equipment was lost during the operation.
In continuation of the offensive, troops returned to the area on Saturday to conduct exploitation operations aimed at clearing the battlefield, recovering abandoned items and preventing the terrorists from re-establishing their positions.
During the follow-up operation, troops recovered 13 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition and one machine gun round.
The military has since maintained dominance of the general area through sustained fighting patrols.
Security sources said the offensive forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks and deny bandit leaders freedom of movement across the North-West.
The latest operation is regarded as a major setback for some of the region’s most wanted terrorist commanders, particularly Dogo Gide, who has been linked to several attacks on communities and security personnel in the North-West.
Military authorities said sustained pressure on the criminal networks is aimed at degrading their operational capabilities, preventing planned attacks on communities and security formations, and restoring lasting peace across Zamfara State and adjoining areas.
