Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head and recovered weapons and other military equipment during coordinated operations across Katsina and Zamfara states.

The military disclosed that the operations, conducted on July 2, 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist groups and improve security across the North-West region.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops recorded significant successes in separate operations carried out in several communities across the two states.

In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on a fighting patrol engaged suspected terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area after the armed men reportedly opened fire on the advancing troops.

The statement said the troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their mission and flee the area.

“Following the encounter, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles used by the terrorists,” the statement noted.

In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during a gun battle.

The military also announced the successful rescue of a district head who was abducted by terrorists in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

According to the statement, armed terrorists riding on several motorcycles invaded Farin Hawa village and kidnapped the District Head, Alhaji Mubarak Sharin.

Troops, supported by other security agencies, immediately launched a pursuit operation and intercepted the fleeing terrorists.

“The pursuing troops made contact with the fleeing terrorists, neutralising one of the assailants, disrupting their withdrawal and rescuing the kidnapped district head,” the military said.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops stationed at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area successfully repelled a terrorist attack on their position.

The military said reinforcements were swiftly deployed to support the troops during the fierce exchange of fire, forcing the attackers to retreat.

Items recovered after the operation included an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack popularly known as CamelBak.

Commending the troops for their performance, the Joint Task Force praised the courage, professionalism and resilience displayed by personnel involved in the operations.

“The Joint Task Force remains resolute in its mission to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups while working closely with communities to enhance security and protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens across the North-West,” the statement added.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA is one of the military’s major counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in the North-West, where security forces have intensified offensives against armed groups responsible for attacks, kidnappings and other criminal activities across the region.
