Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military base under the cover of darkness.
However, vigilant troops detected the movement and engaged the assailants with coordinated firepower, forcing them to retreat.
Following the failed assault, reinforcements joined the operation and launched a pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted several residents from the surrounding community during the attack. The troops successfully rescued nine of the abducted victims.
The military, however, confirmed that one Army officer and one police officer were killed during the exchange of gunfire. Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to a medical facility for treatment. The Army said both personnel are in stable condition.
Troops have since secured the area and commenced exploitation operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ casualties and prevent further attacks on nearby communities.
The military described the failed infiltration as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, noting that sustained offensive operations have continued to weaken their operational capability and limit their freedom of movement.
The Army also dismissed online reports claiming that six security personnel were killed during the attack, clarifying that only one Army officer and one police officer lost their lives.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and ensuring the protection of lives and property until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West.
