Troops of Sector 3, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have repelled an attack by suspected militias on Ariri community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, when troops responded to a distress call reporting an attack on the community.
Security sources said the swift intervention of the troops forced the attackers to flee the area.
During a subsequent search of the community, the troops recovered the body of a man identified as Maianguwa Ishe.
Another resident, identified as Joseph Ezekiel, was found with gunshot wounds sustained during the attack.
The injured victim was immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, troops have launched a manhunt for the fleeing assailants and intensified fighting patrols across the area to prevent further attacks and track down the attackers.
The operation is aimed at restoring calm to the community and preventing the assailants from regrouping or launching further attacks in the area.
