Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI, supported by the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force, have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists on a military location in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, as troops continued counter-terrorism operations in the area.

The terrorists reportedly launched an intense assault on the military position but were met with sustained firepower and determined resistance from the troops, forcing them to abandon the attack and withdraw from the area with casualties.

According to the Joint Task Force, the military positions across Pulka remained firmly under the control of the security forces after the encounter.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI subsequently provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support to the ground troops and carried out precision strikes on identified hostile elements as the terrorists attempted to withdraw.

The air operations reportedly disrupted the terrorists’ movement and frustrated attempts to regroup, while members of the CJTF provided local information that assisted the troops in maintaining situational awareness during the operation.

One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the encounter and was immediately evacuated for medical attention.

The Joint Task Force said the injured soldier had been stabilised and was responding to treatment, with his condition described as stable.

Following the withdrawal of the terrorists, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover any abandoned weapons and equipment, and gather intelligence for possible follow-up operations.

The military described the successful defence of the position as a demonstration of the troops’ combat readiness and determination to prevent terrorist elements from gaining ground in the area.

It said the coordinated response involving ground troops, the Air Component and the CJTF had further demonstrated the importance of joint operations in countering terrorist threats in the North-East.

The troops remain on heightened alert in Pulka and surrounding areas, with patrols, surveillance and offensive and defensive operations continuing.

The Joint Task Force said the operations were aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and action while protecting residents and their property.

It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest security formation.
