Troops of the Joint Task Force, North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device allegedly planted by terrorists along a major road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was carried out on August 27, following intelligence reports of the explosive device along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road.
According to the Joint Task Force, troops of Sector 2 responded swiftly to the report and identified the suspected IED along the route before securing the area to prevent possible harm to motorists and other road users.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was subsequently deployed to safely dispose of the device.
“Acting on credible intelligence, troops of Sector 2 swiftly responded to reports of an IED planted along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road,” the military said.
“Troops identified the explosive device, secured the area to prevent harm to road users and successfully facilitated the safe disposal of the IED by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.”
The military said troops continued aggressive patrols in the general area after the operation to prevent terrorists from carrying out further attacks.
It said the operation demonstrated the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives, securing critical access routes and countering what it described as the evolving tactics of terrorist groups operating across the North-West.
“Following the operation, troops sustained aggressive patrols in the general area to deny terrorists freedom of action,” the statement said.
The Joint Task Force also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects and activities to security agencies.
“Timely information continues to play a vital role in preventing attacks and enhancing public safety,” the military added.
