Troops of the Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups, have rescued three kidnapped victims, neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition during a security operation in Edo State.
The operation followed a reported abduction incident at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026.
According to the Nigerian Army, troops acting on credible intelligence, in collaboration with police operatives and local vigilantes, launched a coordinated pursuit of the suspected kidnappers into their hideout in Esan Local Government Area of the state.
The security team reportedly engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle upon making contact with them.
Military authorities said two members of the criminal gang were neutralised during the operation, while sustained pressure from the security forces forced other members of the group to abandon their captives and flee.
“As a result of the operation, three kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt,” the Army said.Items recovered from the scene included three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three mobile phones and two power banks.
The recovered weapons and other exhibits have been taken into custody, while security agencies continue efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
