Troops of Operation Accord operating in the North-Central zone of the country have neutralized three armed bandits in Tsehombe-Adaka village of Benue in an ongoing clearance operation.
According to a report from the Defence Media Operations (DMO) of the Defence headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the troops also recovered one AK 47 rifle loaded with one magazine containing 5 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the bandits.
The report contained in a Press release signed by MAJ GEN JOHN ENENCHE, Coordinator, Defence media Operations said on the 6th of December, 2020 troops responded to a distress call from Local vigilante members reporting ongoing attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Tsehombe-Adaka village.
According to ENENCHE, the troops immediately mobilized to the location leading to a shootout between troops and armed bandits which led to the death of three of the bandits while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The statement read in full:
“Troops of Sector one, Operation WHIRL STROKE, yesterday, 6 December, 2020 responded to a distress call from Local vigilante members reporting ongoing attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Tsehombe-Adaka village. Troops immediately mobilized to the location leading to a shoot out between troops and armed bandits.
“The gallant troops overwhelmed the bandits by superior firepower, following which troops successfully neutralised 3 of the armed bandits while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Troops recovered one AK 47 rifle loaded with one magazine containing 5 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
“The gallant troops have continued to dominate the area with aggressive patrols to deter further attacks, while efforts are ongoing to locate and neutralise other bandits that might still be hibernating in the area. Members of the general public are hereby requested to continue to provide credible information to the troops operating within their localities”. The statement said.
