Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested three suspected terrorist collaborators, intercepted locally fabricated weapons and ammunition, and destroyed terrorist enclaves during separate operations in Kaduna and Katsina states.
The operations were carried out on August 27 and 28, 2026, as part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and deny criminal elements freedom of action across the North-West.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 1 acted on intelligence that led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist collaborator in Kaduna State.
The suspect was allegedly found with two locally fabricated guns and 13 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag.
According to the military, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been assigned to deliver the weapons and ammunition to another individual.
“Acting on the information from the suspect, troops swiftly conducted a follow-up operation and apprehended two additional suspects connected with the movement of the weapons,” Danja said.
He added that the three suspects and the recovered weapons, ammunition and other items were undergoing further investigation.
In a separate operation on August 28, troops of Sector 2, supported by other security agencies, carried out a clearance operation against terrorist enclaves around Maharba and Karaduwa in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The troops cleared and destroyed the identified enclaves and other structures allegedly used by the terrorists to support their criminal activities.
The operation also targeted an enclave linked to a notorious terrorist leader, Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, whose group has allegedly carried out attacks against communities in Matazu and Musawa local government areas.
The military said the terrorist leader escaped as troops advanced towards the enclave.
However, further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of an RPG-7 tube, a motorcycle, mobile phones and other items.
“Troops thereafter conducted further fighting patrols within the general area to consolidate the gains and deny the terrorists freedom of action,” Danja said.
He said the latest operations reflected the sustained efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the movement of weapons and logistics, and destroy hideouts used by criminal groups.
“The Joint Task Force remains resolute in taking the fight to the terrorists through coordinated and intelligence-driven operations aimed at degrading their capabilities and restoring lasting peace and security to affected communities,” the statement added.
