Troops of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin-Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on September 12, 2026, at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and securing major transportation routes in the area.
The Army said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action and safeguard communities and critical road corridors across the state.
Items recovered from the suspect included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The troops also recovered a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.
The Army said investigations were ongoing to establish the suspect’s alleged links with other criminal elements and determine his possible involvement in kidnapping and related criminal activities along the Benin-Sapele Road.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at protecting communities and major transportation corridors in Edo State.
It also said it would continue to work with other security agencies to strengthen security and disrupt criminal networks operating within the state.
The Army said the operations would be sustained to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the safety of residents and travellers across Edo State.
