Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested five suspected drug peddlers and recovered large quantities of cannabis and other illicit substances during separate operations in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The arrests were made in two intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting the circulation of illicit drugs, which security agencies say are often linked to criminal and terrorist activities in the North-East.
Security sources disclosed that the first operation was conducted on July 2 by troops of the 192 Battalion (Mechanised) at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Pulka.During the raid, three suspected drug dealers were arrested and a significant quantity of suspected narcotics recovered.
Items seized included two sacks and 151 wraps of suspected cannabis, three bottles of a locally abused substance known as “Suck and Die,” one bottle of cough expectorant, three packs of tramadol, one pack of “Orisk,” 39 white tablets, two mobile phones and ₦20,000 suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
In a separate operation conducted on July 3, troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison raided a suspected drug distribution point in Gwoza town, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects.
Recovered items from the second raid included 114 wraps of suspected cannabis, one bottle of syrup, one bottle of “Suck and Die,” a sack of “Captain Black,” a sack of cannabis seeds, 34 wraps of “Arizona,” 44 wraps of “Captain Black,” an MP3 player, a mobile phone and ₦64,700 in cash.
Military sources said the suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The sources noted that the operations were part of ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the supply of illicit substances in the region.
According to the military, the crackdown is aimed at denying criminal groups and insurgents access to narcotics often used to finance or facilitate unlawful activities.
The latest arrests underscore the military’s broader strategy of combining counter-insurgency operations with efforts to tackle drug-related crimes that threaten security and stability across the North-East.
