Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Team Nigeria for its impressive performance at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, describing the athletes’ achievements as a reflection of the resilience, determination and excellence that define the Nigerian spirit.
The President’s message was conveyed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu commended the Nigerian contingent for winning 24 medals 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze saying the feat demonstrated the athletes’ hard work, discipline and unwavering commitment to national pride.
He said the team had flown Nigeria’s flag with honour and dignity throughout the competition, adding that their performances had brought pride to the nation and inspired millions of Nigerians.
“Whether on the podium or through courageous performances in the competition, every member of Team Nigeria has represented our nation with honour, dignity, and pride,” the President said.
Tinubu noted that beyond the medals won, the experience gained by the athletes would serve as a strong foundation for greater accomplishments at future international competitions while inspiring young Nigerians to embrace discipline, commitment and service to the nation.
The President also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for their continued efforts in developing sports and supporting Nigerian athletes to compete at the highest level.
He expressed appreciation to the coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, administrators and other support staff whose contributions ensured Nigeria’s successful outing at the Games.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I express profound appreciation to our athletes, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, administrators, and all those whose dedication and sacrifice made Nigeria’s participation at the Games possible,” Tinubu stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sports development, the President pledged sustained investment in sporting infrastructure, athlete development and institutional reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage.
“My administration remains steadfast in its resolve to invest in sports development, strengthen our sporting institutions, improve training facilities, and create greater opportunities for our talented athletes to excel on the continental and global stage,” he added.
Tinubu urged Team Nigeria to remain focused and continue striving for excellence, expressing confidence that the country’s athletes would build on their Glasgow success to achieve even greater milestones in future international competitions.
