President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, ending a body established during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration to oversee the privatisation, sale and lease of federal government landed assets.

The President also directed that all matters relating to the committee’s activities be taken over by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, with immediate effect.

The committee was created in 2000 under the Obasanjo administration as part of the Federal Government’s monetisation policy to manage the alienation of federal government properties.

It was chaired by the Minister of Housing and included representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health, Agriculture and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside members from the public and private sectors.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision followed a government review which found that the committee had outlived its original mandate.

“The activities of the PIC had extended beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country, and the continued existence of the Committee is no longer justified,” the statement said.

Tinubu consequently directed that the Attorney General coordinate all matters previously handled by the committee, with effect from November 5, 2025.

The President also ordered the erstwhile Secretary of the committee, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, to immediately cease acting on behalf of the dissolved committee and the Federal Government on all related matters.

The Federal Executive Council had, on March 22, 2001, approved the establishment of a Panel of Inquiry to produce a White Paper to guide the implementation of recommendations relating to the committee’s operations. The panel worked for 21 months before submitting its report.
