President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the governorship election as a demonstration of the strength and continued growth of Nigeria’s democracy.

The President, in a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, said he had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory in the election.

Tinubu said Adeleke’s re-election showed that the people of Osun State continued to have confidence in his leadership.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke @AAdeleke_01 earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” the President said.

The President urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite the people of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations or choices during the election.

Tinubu said the governor must now focus on mobilising the people of Osun towards growth, stability and socio-economic development.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” he said.

The President also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, describing their conduct as a contribution to the development of Nigeria’s democratic culture.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture,” Tinubu stated.

He said the outcome of the election reflected the choice of the electorate and expressed confidence in the continued survival and strengthening of democracy in Nigeria.

“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” the President said.

Tinubu further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the conduct of the election, which he said was peaceful and transparent.

“I must also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner,” he added.

The President’s statement followed the declaration of Adeleke as the winner of the August 15 governorship election by INEC.

The declaration formally returned Adeleke for another term as governor of Osun State after he defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the keenly contested poll.

Tinubu concluded his message by praying for the continued growth and strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy.

“May our democracy continue to thrive and be strengthened. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the President said.
