The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said it has added 5,910 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of transformer capacity to the national grid.
The General Manager, Project Coordination, and Technical Assistant to the MD/CEO, Aminu Tahir, revealed the development while presenting an update on projects under the Project Management Unit (PMU) of TCN.
He said that the unit was currently executing projects funded by the World Bank, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the African Development Bank (AFDB), while the procurement process for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Lagos and Ogun Projects were being finalised.
Amin noted that several of the PMU projects have been completed, while others are about 80 per cent completed.
“These projects have significantly boosted the national grid, with an additional 5,910 MVA of transformer capacity as of date,” he added.
Meanwhile, the company also announced that bulk power supply has been restored nationwide through the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi 330kV Transmission Line at about 12:40 pm on Wednesday.
Three towers along the line route collapsed on May 7, following a severe windstorm.
Consequently, TCN said it mobilised three contractors to the site to undertake emergency reconstruction works.
However, while work was ongoing, another windstorm brought down an additional three towers at Galadima Village in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, requiring the engagement of additional contractors on an emergency basis.
“Work was done, day and night, in conjunction with our supervising engineers, to ensure the quick restoration of the line that was energised earlier today. We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of affected communities during the reconstruction period.
“TCN remains committed to ensuring efficient and reliable transmission of bulk electricity to distribution load centres nationwide,” TCN’s General Manager Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said in a statement on Wednesday.
