...as Committee submits report for FCT Sports Associations.
The Chairman of the Steering Committee for the screening of aspirants into the boards of FCT Sports Associations, Godwin Bamigboye has passionately appealed to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to preserve all lands earmarked for development of Sports Infrastructure in the FCT.
He made this appeal at the official presentation of the report of the Committee to the representative of the FCT Minister, Luka Istifanus, FCT Director of Sports.
He observed that the preservation and development of the lands earmarked for sports development is a key enabler for sports development and growth. While linking it with the persons screened for membership of the Boards of Sports Associations, Bamigboye said the Committee took its time to carefully identify old and intending aspirants and assured that the exercise has unveiled men and women of quality and competency who will help in their various sports Associations to drive the growth of sports to the desired level of success.
He commended the authority that this is the first time in the history of sports in FCT that a publicized and elaborate screening exercise was embarked upon to get capable men and women into sports Associations in FCT.
He is optimistic that the calibre of aspirants in the incoming boards of Sports Associations have the capacity or competency to attract sponsorships and investments to sports development.
Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, the incoming Chairman of FCT Basketball Association who doubles as Chairman of Chairmen, HRM Sir Eze Ifeanyi Eke said that it is time to really explore the potential in Sports as the next to Oil in revenue earnings.
He said Nigerian athletes must be nurtured properly to be useful to those who brought them up rather than others reaping from them when they become stars.
The Director of Sports, representing the FCT Minister commended the Committee for delivering a good job within a month. He promised to brief the Honourable Minister who is currently busy in the commissioning of legacy projects to give approval for the inauguration of the Boards of Sports Associations in FCT as soon as possible.
A total of 310 aspirants were screened for membership of 33 Sports Associations.
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by a number of dignitaries including some incoming Chairmen of Associations like Handball, Squash, Badminton, Taekwondo and Professor Lucky Abubakar, incoming Board member, Basketball Association.
