The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects over the armed robbery of mobile phones and accessories valued at about ₦100 million belonging to a company in Ogun State.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) following a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police by Sanniphil Company over the violent robbery of its consignment.
The police said preliminary investigation showed that the suspects allegedly attacked a company vehicle conveying mobile phones and accessories worth about ₦100 million from Lagos to Onitsha and carted away the items.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the robbery occurred on August 5, 2026, at about 7pm.
The statement said STS operatives commenced a discreet investigation on August 10 following the petition, leading to the arrest of the five suspects in Ogun State.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 5th August 2026, at about 1900hrs, the suspects attacked a company vehicle conveying phones and accessories valued at about One Hundred Million Naira (₦100,000,000.00) from Lagos to Onitsha and carted away the items,” the police said.
The suspects were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
Police said a total of 81 brand-new smart mobile phones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.
The Force added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang still at large and recover the remaining stolen property.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen property,” the statement added.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting businesses and citizens from violent crimes across the country.
