PFIPC: Failure To Probe Gbajabiamila, Adeyemi A Rape On Justice – Okonkwo Tells NASS

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the National Assembly over its handling of the investigation into the alleged activities of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, accusing lawmakers of failing to question key individuals linked to the matter.

In a post on his X account, the former presidential campaign spokesman said the legislature should have invited the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the purported Director-General of the PFIPC, Adeniyi Adeyemi, before reaching any conclusions on the investigation.

According to him, concluding the probe without hearing from the two individuals undermines the principles of natural justice and the independence of the legislature.

Okonkwo argued that any findings reached without giving those mentioned an opportunity to defend themselves would lack credibility.

He maintained that no person should be condemned without being heard, insisting that the National Assembly ought to have ensured both men appeared before the investigative panel.

He also dismissed claims that Adeyemi could not be produced before the committee because of a court order remanding him in custody.

Okonkwo described the explanation as untenable, arguing that the National Assembly, as a separate arm of government, should not be prevented from carrying out its constitutional oversight responsibilities.

The ADC chieftain further questioned why Gbajabiamila, who is not in detention, was not invited to testify before the committee.

He urged Nigerians to hold public office holders accountable through the ballot in the 2027 general election, insisting that transparent investigations are essential to strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions.
