Senator representing Ekiti South at the National Assembly, Chief (Mrs.) Biodun Olujimi, has expressed strong optimism that the spate of defections currently experienced by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), would not affect its chances of winning elections.
Speaking with Members of National Assembly New Media in her office on Thursday, Olujimi, said, if those who left the party do not return, they would soon “fizzle into oblivion”.
According to the Lawmaker and Minority Leader in the 8th Senate those who defected to other parties might have personal reasons for leaving, expressing hope that they would soon return to the umbrella fold.
Her words: “This is election time and election times are always like this. People who believe that their interests cannot be saved here will want to move. But let me assure you, they will all come back, if they don’t come back, they will fizzle into oblivion.
“The truth is, the people on the other side also have enough people to take charge there. So whatever is happening, is happening because where people believe they have upper hand, they go and wield it there and it doesn’t work that way”.
Speaking on the the forthcoming PDP convention, Senator Olujimi, who also doubles as the Chairman of the protocol subcommittee of the convention, assured that, going by the antecedents of various organs and stakeholders of the party, the exercise would help reposition the party ahead of 2023 general elections.
“We are working so hard to reposition our party ahead of 2023 elections. And of course, there are other elections coming up before 2023. We need a strong party to be able to weigh through all the elections that are staring us at the face, and I know that the Governor’s Forum, the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Committee (NEC), have been up and doing” .
Also speaking on the unending in-house crises rocking PDP in her state, the former deputy Governor of Ekiti said, hopefully, the national convention would address all issues.
She said, “It has been so tough for us to do. But I know that with the Convention, something has to be done. The NEC has effectively ceded its powers to the Convention Committee and I know that the Convention Committee, in having to put together all the elections and the congresses coming up in the various states, would have to attend to the problems of Ekiti, Osun and other states that have pending issues, and I believe that is where the resolution will come from”.
