A case bordering on disobedience of court order came up for hearing at the on going Independent Investigative Panel on SARS and other units of the Nigeria Police.

In a complaint filed by O.J. Okoroze-Egbo, the counsel to the complainant, stated that the high court in Delta State gave judgement against the police to pay N20,000,000(twenty-million naira ) as compensation to the complainant, whose son was   extrajudicially killed by the police .

The Counsel informed the Justice Suleiman Galadima (retd) led panel that since the delivery of the judgement at the Delta state high court, the police has refused to obey the court order.

The Counsel alleged that on the 18th November,2016, one Efe Oseahweke   was murdered by policemen under the directive of DCP Samuel O.Ojo and Commissioner of Police,Delta State at State CID,Asaba.

According to her, Efe’s father, Chief lucky Oseahweke engaged her services to institute action at the High Court of Justice, Delta state, Sapele Division against the police for the extrajudicial killing of his son.

On 23rd May, 2018 Hon Justice A. O. Oamogho gave judgement in favour of Chief Lucky Oseahweke. That the respondents pay the sum of N20,000,000 as general damages for loss of attention and care from the deceased Efe Oseahweke (which he would have expectedly given his father if he was alive).

The counsel, while presenting copies of the judgement of the high court, affidavit of service on the Delta State Police Command and letter to the Attorney-General of the federation, further stated that the refusal of the police to obey the court order informed the decision to file complaint before the panel  for enforcement.

Justice Galadima(retd) directed that another letter be written to the Attorney-General of the federation seeking the enforcement of the court order.
