Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 25 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.
The operations were conducted on September 3, 2026, as troops intensified patrols and offensive operations across the Joint Operations Area.
In Katsina State, troops of Sector 1, while conducting a night patrol along Kwanar Kura in Sabuwa Local Government Area, encountered terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower.
The terrorists reportedly fled into the surrounding bushes as troops pursued them along their escape routes.
The operation subsequently led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims who had earlier been abducted along the Dandume-Damari Road. Two motorcycles were also recovered from the fleeing terrorists.
Similarly, in Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 rescued 23 abducted civilians during a fighting patrol on the outskirts of Wuya Town in Anka Local Government Area.
The rescued victims comprised three males and 20 females.
Preliminary debriefing revealed that the victims were abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and had spent approximately three weeks in terrorist captivity.
The victims were subsequently evacuated for medical attention and further debriefing.
The Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operations demonstrated the troops’ commitment to rescuing citizens held in captivity and disrupting terrorist activities across the region.
“The successful rescue operations further demonstrate the determination and responsiveness of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in protecting lives, disrupting terrorist activities and rescuing citizens held in captivity across the Joint Operations Area.”
Danja added that the troops would sustain offensive operations against terrorist elements in the North-West.
“Troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive operations and denying terrorists freedom of action.”
