The Secondary Teacher of former President, OLUSEGUN OBASANJO has died of old age related ailment few days after he was discharged from the FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE, IDI-ABA, ABEOKUTA, the OGUN STATE Capital.
According to reports that, PA JAMES AKANBI POPOOLA who taught OBASANJO, as well as OLUBARA OF IBARA, OBA JACOB OMOLADE, REAR ADMIRAL ADEWUNMI (RTD) and PROF SABURI ADESANYA, former Vice Chancellor of OLABISI ONABANJO UNIVERSITY (OOU) among others at BAPTIST BOYS HIGH SCHOOL(BBHS), Abeokuta died on Thursday at 92.
The death of the PA POPOOLA was confirmed by a respected family member, PROF TOPE POPOOLA while speaking with journalists adding that, he died in his private residence located in LESLIE ROAD BEHIND ALL SAINTS CHURCH, ILARO at about 12pm.
‘Pa James Akanbi Popoola was 92 on the 28th of May, 2019. He died of old age related illness, and was on admission at FMC till last week, but was discharged on showing signs of improvement. The family is consulting to give the erudite teacher and renowned principal a befitting burial.
The family member who was a former Commissioner under the administration of NAVY CAPTAIN KAYODE OLOFINMOYIN(RTD) in Ogun State disclosed that, the corpse of the late family head had being deposited at the morgue of the FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE(FMC), ABEOKUTA, as at the time of filing this report
The deceased who is the head of the POPOOLA FAMILY in ILARO TOWN, YEWA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OGUN STATE was a pioneer Principal of BAPTIST GRAMMAR SCHOOL, IBADAN and was also a teacher at BAPTIST GRAMMAR SCHOOL IWO.
Late POPOOLA left behind a wife (MOJI), who is also a retired teacher, as well as six children: TEMITAYO,60 years, who is the eldest, as well as AKINWALE,OLUBUNMI, MODUPE,TUNDE and DAYO.
It would be recalled that, former President, OLUSEGUN OBASANJO and his secondary schoolmate, OLUBARA OF IBARA, OBA JACOB OMOLADE had late last year paid their late teacher a visit at HIS ILARO home, as a way to check on him, on how he was fairing, and also used the visit to share their experiences while in school under his tutelage
