The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on has commissioned Nigeria’s first Skilled and Talented Displaced Persons Hub (STDPHub).
The hub, which is web-based www.adphub.org, was developed by corps member THOMAS TER, a one-time displaced person as part of his personal Community Development Service (CDS) project.
Performing the commissioning on behalf of the Federal Capital Territory Coordinator of the scheme, HAJIYA WALIDA ISAH, in Abuja, MRS. CHIOMA EZENWATA, commended the initiative.
She observed that the hub will promote self-reliance amongst Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
She also called on other corps members to emulate corps member TER by initiating programs and projects that would live lasting impact on the communities and states of deployment.
The FCT-NYSC boss also called on both local and international organisations and the government to support the expansion of the project.
Initiator of the hub, corps member TER, is a graduate of Plant Science and Biotechnology.
He said his recurrent experiences as an IDP propelled him to find a solution to the beggarly states of IDPs.
He observed that IDP great people with obscured skills and talents, however, with the right opportunity they can become the driving force of Nigeria’s economy and instrument of peace.
He added that the idea of giving aid and donations to IDPs are unsustainable and the investment on IDPs in the area of trains need to be maximized.
The corps member said his project will address Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Speaking on the project, he said the project was sponsored by Nature Rescue Initiative (NRI) and was implemented in two displaced persons camps; NEW KUCHIGORO and KARMA JIJI IDP camps.
The project has captured 120 skilled and 20 talented IDPs.
Speaking further, TER said appeal for support to enable him extend the project across the country.
The Executive Director of NRI, SAMUEL VINCENT, said his organization resolved to sponsor the project because of its potential to restore peace across the country.
He called well-meaning individuals, NGOs, INGOs and the government to also join his organization in supporting the initiative.
