The British High Commission has said Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB was not arrested in the UK as widely believed.
Dean Hurlock, a Spokesperson for the British High Commission, said that while they can confirm Kanu’s arrest, he was not picked up in the UK where he is based.
According to Hurlock, “Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested in the UK for extradition purposes.”
Abubakar Malami, minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation, had told journalists in Abuja on Tuesday that Kanu was picked up on Sunday due to “the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services.”
Kanu, who jumped bail since 2019, has been rearrested and rearranged in the Federal High Court Abuja for continuation of his criminal trial on terrorism charges.
