Nigeria’s leading juniors in the Boys 16s – Seun Ogunsakin and Ganiyu Mubarak – left no one in doubt that they were heads and shoulders above the rest by powering their way into the semifinals losing only three and five games respectively in three round robin matches.
Ogunsakin from Ekiti will take on Bode Lawal from Lagos while Mubarak from Ibadan will play Jeremiah Benjamin from Lagos for their places in the finals
Godwin Kienka, director of the International Tennis Academy said of the duo,: “Ogunsakin and Mubarak have been rated by many tennis followers as having the potential to hit the top 30 on the ATP circuit in eight years if they can find the right investor to send them to a good tennis academy and fund their travel to tournaments”.
In the Girls 14s, defending champion, Khadijat Mohammed from Abuja made light walk of her opponent, Mariam Egbeyemi, beating her 9-0 while her rival Success Ogunjobi from Ekiti also had an emphatic 9-2 victory over Toluwa Agunbiade from Calabar.
There will also be semifinal matches in the boys and girls 10s, 12s Friday with the grand finale taking place on Saturday from 12 noon.
The week long tournament is taking place at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Race Course.
