The Nigeria Tennis Federation NTF and the entire tennis community would begin to enjoy another level of funding as Davnotch Nigeria Limited, sponsors of the annual Davnotch National Open Tennis championship has promised to increase prize money for future editions of the tournament.
Speaking at the press conference heralding the 2026 edition of the Davnotch National Open Tennis Championship, Managing director of Davnotch Nigeria Limited, Mr Emmanuel Ochei promised to increase the prize money and other benefits for the championships in future editions.
In his words: “Sustainable sports development requires consistent investment, innovation and deliberate planning.
“ It is in line with this philosophy that I am announcing to you that future editions of the Davnotch National Open Tennis Championships will feature increase prize money and enhanced incentives for the players”, Ochei said.
Also speaking at the press briefing of the Nigeria Tennis Federation , Honourable Victor Ochei who was represented by the vice president of the federation, Mr Owoseni Adeyemi , praised the commitment of Davnotch Nigeria Limited towards the development of tennis in Nigeria through the Davnotch National Open Tennis championship which has become a symbol of excellence.
“The Davnotch National Open Tennis Championship has become a symbol of excellence, resilience and opportunity providing our athletes with a credible platform to compete, develop and aspire to international greatness”, President Ochei said.
Defending champion in the women’s category, Success Ogunjobi in her remarks tasks the government and the private sector to help provide more tournaments for the players so as to keep them fit and improve their skills.
In her word: ”We only have 3-4 tournaments in Nigeria in a year, we really need more tournaments.
“We wish we can have more sponsors that would bring in more tournaments for us,” Ogunjobi said.
The annual tennis championships which is in its sixth year has seen a cumulative investment of over one –hundred million naira from the sponsors; Davnotch Nigeria Limited according to organizers with the sponsors also announcing a prize money of twenty five million naira for the 2026 edition.
Dignitaries at the event include the technical director, Nigeria Tennis Federation, Saidu Musa, the secretary of the federation, Shammah Aliyu Makpa and members of the Sports writers association of Nigeria FCT chapter.
