The Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration as part of efforts to address the country’s evolving security challenges and enhance national security.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedo, to the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Onyechi Appolonia Anele, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Speaking during the meeting, Anele said the growing complexity of security threats across the country required sustained cooperation among security and intelligence agencies.
She stressed the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, improved operational coordination, strategic communication and institutional support among security agencies to effectively tackle emerging threats.
“The complexity of modern security challenges demands sustained synergy among security and intelligence agencies. Enhanced intelligence sharing, operational coordination and strategic communication are critical to achieving our collective security objectives,” she said.
The Army spokesperson congratulated Iniedo on his appointment as Force Public Relations Officer and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the police and other security stakeholders.
According to her, the partnership aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, which seeks to transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptive, combat-ready and resilient force capable of operating effectively within a joint and multi-agency environment.
Anele noted that stronger cooperation between the two institutions would further support ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the country.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in deepening its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.
Strengthened cooperation will further bolster efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency, kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities while enhancing public confidence in the nation’s security architecture,” she added.
In his remarks, the Force Public Relations Officer commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism, sacrifices and achievements in joint security operations nationwide.
Iniedo said the long-standing partnership between the military and the police had contributed significantly to improving internal security and maintaining law and order across the country.
He also advocated closer collaboration between the public relations departments of both institutions to strengthen strategic communication, counter misinformation and promote accurate information on security operations.
“The enduring partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force has significantly improved internal security.
There is a need for closer cooperation, particularly between our public relations departments, to enhance strategic communication, counter misinformation and project a unified national security narrative,” he said.
The visit, according to both agencies, underscored their shared determination to sustain and deepen inter-agency cooperation in support of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen security, protect lives and property, and address emerging threats across the country.
Security analysts have consistently emphasised the importance of intelligence sharing and coordinated operations among security agencies as key factors in tackling Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and organised crime.
The renewed commitment by the Army and the Police is expected to further enhance joint operations and improve the effectiveness of national security responses.
