The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over 18 bags of cannabis sativa weighing about 756 kilogrammes to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following a series of intelligence-led operations in Lagos State.
The handover took place on Friday at the NNS BEECROFT parade ground in Apapa, where the Commander of the naval base, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the illicit consignments were recovered during separate operations conducted within the command’s area of responsibility over the past few months.
Adams-Aliu disclosed that five bags of suspected cannabis sativa were intercepted at Abule Osun on April 7, while two bags were recovered at Ikare Island on April 13.
He added that another 11 bags were seized at Alpha Beach on July 15, bringing the total recovery to 18 bags. “Five bags of suspected cannabis sativa were intercepted at Abule Osun on April 7, 2026.

The naval commander attributed the successes to the Nigerian Navy Western Regional Control Centre, also known as Falcon Eye, an advanced maritime surveillance system that provides real-time monitoring across Nigeria’s coastal waters.
“These successful operations were made possible by the Nigerian Navy Western Regional Control Centre, popularly known as Falcon Eye, an advanced maritime surveillance system that provides extensive monitoring across Nigeria’s coastal waters,” Adams-Aliu stated.
According to him, the surveillance platform combines long-range cameras, sensors and other sophisticated technologies capable of tracking activities beyond the reach of naval patrol boats.
He noted that the recoveries underscored the vigilance, professionalism and operational readiness of NNS BEECROFT personnel in protecting the nation’s maritime domain and combating illicit trafficking activities.
Receiving the exhibits on behalf of the Commander of the NDLEA Marine Command, Commander Narcotic Morrison Udo, Deputy Commander of the command, Commander Narcotic Luka Yerima, commended the Nigerian Navy for its continued collaboration with the agency in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
He described the partnership between both agencies as critical to ongoing efforts to curb the movement of illegal drugs through Nigeria’s waterways.
