…describes act as height of criminality

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has commended youths in the state for not joining in the looting spree across the country in the name of the ENDSARS protest, describing the act as the height of criminality.

The Governor made the commendation while flagging off the farmers’ field day and interactive session, for the North Central, organized by the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), in Lafia, on Tuesday.

The Governor further called on the youths to shun people residing out of the state who may want to entice them to embark on the breaking of peoples warehouses, warning that such as is the height of criminality.

Engineer Sule said his administration is not afraid that any warehouse could be broken into, mostly because government has ensured that all COVID-19 palliatives have been distributed, with nothing kept in any warehouse.

According to the Governor, his administration distributed the palliatives as they came, stressing that the exercise was guided by the desire for transparency.

“We distributed these items as they came and the reason why we did that, was because we wanted to be very transparent with people.

“We wanted them to understand these items were meant for them and even though we were asked at one point, by some officials of COCAVID to hold on, because there was this fear that there was going to be another lockdown,” he stated.

While commending youths in the state for not accepting to join the unfortunate trend by breaking into peoples warehouses, Engineer Sule, cautioned against fighting the police.

“If we continue to fight the police the way we are going, who is going to protect us, criminals? Of course, the police may need reform, but we need the police more than any other time,” the Governor said.

Speaking on the event, Engineer Sule applauded the existing collaboration between NCAM and the Nasarawa State government, in the efforts to revitalize agricultural production and processing.

The Governor specifically commended NCAM for establishing the fully operational 1.5ton/hour Alvan Blanch Model Combine Rice Mill Plant, at the Nasarawa State processing zone, in Lafia, as well as the 16. 5 hectares total rice farm using SAWAH Eco-technology for rice production in Assakio, Shabu and NADP seed fields.

He expressed hope that the interactive session will afford the state government further opportunity to strengthen the collaboration with NCAM, towards improving its agricultural policies, especially at it involves the agricultural mechanization thrust of his administration.

Earlier, Executive Director, National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Engr. Muideen Yomi Kasali, said Nasarawa State was chosen to host the agency’s field day and interactive sessions with relevant stakeholders in the agric sector within the North Central zone, is because of its comparative advantage in agriculture.

He said the reason for the session was to avail the North Central, the various agricultural machineries developed by NCAM and to keep abreast of new developments in indigenous technologies.

The event witnessed the demonstrations of recent developments in indigenous technologies.
