..Ibijoke Sanwolu-Olu To Flag Off Race On November 9th

BY ADEYEMI ROBINSON-ADEFIOYE, LAGOS

The city of Lagos is gearing for another milestone in the history of the first and only women marathon in West Africa as the organisers announced record entries for the LAGOS WOMEN RUN 2019.

About 35,000 participants have registered to take part in the fourth edition of the LAGOS WOMEN RUN holding on Saturday, November 9th.

The 10 Kilometres race was created specifically for women from all walks of life to exercise their bodies, socialize and engage in meaningful networking that will positively impact their life while having fun at the same time.

At a press conference held at the TESLIM BALOGUN STADIUM  Surulere, Lagos General Coordinator, TAYO POPOOLA stated that all is set for the race and every logistic needed for smooth organization are in place for a successful event.

The race will be in two categories; the Open for runners from ages 18 to 45 years and the veteran category for runners from 45 years and above.

POPOOLA emphasized that the race aimed to prepare runners for bigger marathons, campaign against domestic violence and emancipation of women from all forms of abuse.

“It is going to be run for fun, well-being and a lot networking where people come together to have fun. Women in Lagos State want to hold Lagos, they want to encourage the men, they want to encourage the system, they want to encourage the government and support the government which is what we are doing”.

One of the Sponsors of the Lagos Women Run 2019, EMZOR PHARMACITICAL INDUSTRIAL LIMITED through her Brand Manager, PHARMACIST GBENGA OBAPARUSI said their involvement was based on their philosophy of riding on unlimited wellness available to all and affordable by all.

“Part of wellness is maintaining health care and we know that exercise is a good activity when it comes to health care, if you take care of yourself, have the  right lifestyle, you will probably not need to take therapeutic medications.

” To that extent we are partnering with Lagos Sports Commission on this event to propagate women wellness and women health in Lagos State and even beyond Lagos State” said PHARMACIST OBAPARUSI.

Activities leading to the event proper started on Tuesday with a RACE EXPO, ongoing at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

With the support of sponsors, the prize money for winners has increased, with the overall winner expected to go home with N750,000 as against N500,000 received last year. There will be cash prizes for second to tenth positions.

The route for the Lagos Women Run remains the same as last year’s, showcasing 15 national monuments located in Lagos from the starting point at the TAFAWA BALEWA SQUARE to the finish point at the TESLIM BALOGUN STADIUM.
