…Invites Minister and head of agencies to a progressive meeting

Members of the Senate Committee on Power on Tuesday in their inaugural meeting resolved to do things differently from the past as they vowed to assist the ministry of Power and its Agencies to tackle the challenges affecting the sector. Hence, the committee chairman, GABRIEL SUSWAM directed the clerk of the committee to invite the Minister of power and the head of the various agencies under it to a progressive meeting on Tuesday the 8th of October, 2019
While addressing members of the Committee during their inaugural meeting, the committee chairman SEN. GABRIEL SUSWAM representing BENUE NORTH- EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT said that the problem in the Power sector is the lack of synergy among the various arms of agencies in the Sector and the security architecture of the country.
He noted that the problem the sector has generated over the years could be attributed to lack of synergy among the ministry and the agencies under it.
Also, while addressing the Press, SEN. MPIGI BARINDA representing RIVERS SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT noted that power is a key sector as far Nigeria is concern therefore the committee rising from its inaugural meeting has resolved to engage every critical stakeholders in the power sector as well as tackle the issue of power from a different perspective from the past.
SEN. MPIGI said “We are trying to meet with the head of the PARASTATAL under the Ministry of power, we just want to do something in a different way from how it has been handled in the past. The committee chairman, Sen. Suswam has mentioned to everybody in the committee that we must put our house together so that we can bring all the agencies under the ministry and stakeholders together so that we can get back to the next level to deliver power to all Nigerians accordingly as it expected.”
“Of course there is disconnect between the ministry and the agencies under it just like the police and army and other security agencies. When you talk of distribution, you talk of generation, so we are trying to see how we can bring them together and the agencies to see how they can serve the masses” SENATOR MPIGI concluded.
