Kwara United won a historic President Federation Cup title on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos defeating giant killers Abakaliki FC via penalties after both teams played out a goaless draw in regular time.
The tense encounter saw both sides create numerous chances but fail to find a breakthrough in regulation and extra time. With the score locked at 0-0, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout that had fans on the edge of their seats.
Kwara United scored four of their five penalties against,three scored by Abakaliki FC.
Earlier in the women’s category, Perennial campaigners,Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons settled their score via penalties after both teams played out a 2-2 draw in regular time.
The President Federation Cup, Nigeria’s oldest domestic competition, has now witnessed a final settled by penalties 18 times, underlining its reputation for high drama and unpredictability.
