The international Olympic Committee (IOC) will today Thursday, 20th March, 2025, elect a new President to succeed Thomas Bach in an election Congress in Greece.
The election which has been scheduled for today will usher in the 10th president of the organization who will be taking over the affairs from Thomas Bach who was elected as the 9th president of the Committee since September 2013.
Thomas Bach an Olympic champion in Fencing is the first Olympic champion to have been elected into the office of IOC President .
The election which will be well contested by notable individuals from different part of the world. Among the contestants are

Kirsty Coventry-Zimbabwe
Juan Antonio Samaranch-Spain
Johan Eliasch-Sweden
Morinari Watanabe-Japan
David Lappartient… France
Prince Feisal Al-Hussein- Jordan.
Most of the candidates have campaigned on similar themes, pledging to modernise, promote sustainability, embrace technology and empower athletes if elected into office as the 10th president of the committee.
