…PRESIDENT JOSÉ MÁRIO VAZ dismissed his whole cabinet on Monday
GUINEA BISSAU’S President, JOSÉ MÁRIO VAZ named a new Prime Minister on Tuesday, a day after sacking the entire cabinet, reports AFP.
MR VAZ has been involved in a power struggle with his own party since he became president in 2014.
He has dismissed his entire cabinet before, but this time it comes less than a month before the presidential election on 24 November.
AFP reports that he has appointed former premier FAUSTINO IMBALI as the new prime minister.
His first job will be to form a new government to prepare for the election.
Over the weekend, police used tear gas against protesters demanding the vote is postponed to give time to clean up electoral register to limit potential voter fraud.
MR VAZ is standing for re-election, this time as an independent candidate, along with 11 other candidates.
