Ex-international and a Chairmanship contender for the forth-coming Anambra State Football Association elections, CHIKELUE ILONYEOSI has said that the Executive governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, GOVERNOR WILLIE OBIANO is not interested in who wins the Anambra State FA elections and has not endorsed any candidate contrary to widespread belief.

Addressing Sports Journalists in Abuja on Monday on his ambition to run for the top position in his State Football Association, the former U20 and Super Eagles star stated that his desire to contest for the position of Chairman, Anambra State FA is borne out of the need for a positive change in Anambra State football.

In his words: “I just want a positive change in football, to bring all stakeholders together and united for the growth of football in Anambra State”

“Name droppers should stop using the governor’s name. He has not endorsed anybody and has no intention to do so.

“His Excellency is only interested in developing not only football but sports in general in Anambra State.

When asked what are the challenges bedeviling football development in Anambra State, ILONYEOSI  identified lack of proper structure in the management of the game and the absence of football facilities such as standard Stadia, training pitches etc.

He however commended the State Governor, MR WILLIE OBIANO in his efforts in trying to change the face of football and Sports in Anambra State.

“Governor Obiano is doing so much to develop sports and particularly football in the state”

“You can see the work Monichelle is doing to give Anambra state a befitting football pitch”

“This can attract even the National team for camping and matches”

“All thanks to the Governor” He said.

Speaking on what he would bring to the table if elected as Chairman of  the  Football Association, ILONYEOSI said he has designed a 14-Point Agenda to change the face of Football in Anambra State.

Highlighting some of his plans, the widely traveled ex-international said part of his Agenda is to unite all stakeholders in the state, bring in foreign investors to promote football in the state, develop a robust grassroots program where talents can be identified and nurtured and create a conducive environment for tournaments among others.

In an illustrious career, CHIKELUE ILONYEOSI  played professionally for Tennis Borussia Berlin, In Germany, Çaykur Rizespor, in Turkey, Ittihad FC, Asteras Tripoli both in Libya and Al-Ittihad Club.

He featured for the Nigeria national Under-20 football team at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. He also earned four senior caps for Nigeria between 2000-2002.

The Anambra State FA election is billed for the 30th of October, 2020.
