Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) says Nomadic schools in Gombe state are grossly inadequate, hence the need for additional ones.

Mr Babaji Babadidi,Executive Chairman of the board said this in Gombe on Monday during the 2019 annual workshop on Capacity Development of Nomadic School Based Management Committees (SBMCs), organized  by the National Commission for Nomadic Education .

He said ,currently, Gombe had only 93 Nomadic schools spread across the 11 Local Government areas of the state, with an enrollment of 27 ,503 pupils and 387 teachers.

“The number is grossly inadequate considering the fact that Gombe is a leading Nomadic-education friendly state, for obvious reason,” he said.

According to him, the current administration of Gov Inuwa Yahaya is interested in having the number of Nomadic schools in the state increased by 100 per cent to absorb over 90,000 Nomadic school-aged children scattered across the State.

In his speech, Prof. Bashir Usman, Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education, said every stakeholder had an interest to protect in the affairs of education of children.

“Every stakeholder must be involved in promoting school community relationships, as well as explore best approaches to be adopted in the workshop to ensure smooth implementation of the Nomadic Education programme,” he said.

He said the workshop was one of the series of carefully planned activities by the commission aimed at accelerating the achievement recorded in the education sector.

Also speaking, Dr Mohammed El-Nafaty, Director, Department of Social Mobilisation and Women Development, National Commission for Nomadic Education, said the workshop was aimed at recognising the role of SBMCs in governance of schools.

He said the strategy adopted would accelerate the process of curbing the number of out-of-school children, especially as it related to Nomadic Education.(NAN)
