Professional Golfers across the federation will as from Thursday have their hands full when they slug it out in the 2022 IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja Captain’s Cup which have two million naira as a take home prize for the winner.
The Players include Current Nigeria’s number one, Kamalu Bako, former Nigeria’s number one Oche Udoh, Kingsley Oparaku as well as Edo state Born Donatus Opadofin among others.
Briefing the media at the Club house , Vice Chairman, Organising Planning Committee, Banjo Obaleye who stand-in for the Chairman, Former Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Bayo. Ojo, said the championship is part of golfing activities lined up to celebrate the end of one year tenure of Club captain, Distinguished Senator, Emmanuel Anosike.
” A total of 550 golfers including Professional and Amateur from 6 African countries have registered to fight it out in the course. The countries are Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana, Kenya, Ghana and hosts, Nigeria. We have lots of expertriates across over 30 countries that are also participating in this event”.
Obaleye said cash and trophies are equally available to be won by different amateur categories especially from category one to four.
Secretary of the committee, Lizzy Asomugha said the line up programmes include caddies tournament, Special kitty, Professional tournament as well as ladies in categories 2 and 3, the Veterans and Super Veterans.
Lizzy said Captain Anosike has invited all Captains and Lady Captains of all major clubs to grace the final event on Saturday.
The Club’s competition secretary, Julius Fadairo assured the participants that the course is well ready for the event.
The Organising Planning Committee said this year’s Captain’s Cup is the biggest in the history of competition in the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja as any player that played a hole-in-one in hole 16 will go home with 10 million naira.
Others that present at the media parley include, the outgoing Club Captain, Distinguished Senator Emmanuel Anosike as well as outgoing Lady Captain, MaryRose Richard Obioha.
