The Federal Government has launched a joint security operation against bandits in Kano State following the August 29 attack on Chiroma village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, disclosed this during a condolence and assessment visit to the Kano State Government over the attack.
Matawalle said the operation was being led by the Commander of the 3 Brigade, Kano, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, with personnel of the Joint Task Force participating in the exercise.
According to the minister, troops operating from the Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps were deployed to pursue the attackers and restore security in affected communities.
He said the operation had already recorded some success, including the rescue of several kidnapped victims around the Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
“Security forces have launched a joint operation following the attack, led by Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, Commander of the 3 Brigade, Kano,” Matawalle said.
The minister commended the troops for their efforts and assured them of continued Federal Government support to strengthen their operational capabilities.
He said President Bola Tinubu’s administration remained committed to tackling insecurity and would continue to provide the armed forces and other security agencies with the resources required to protect lives and property.
Matawalle also held a closed-door meeting with commanders of the 3 Brigade and other security formations in Kano, where he charged them to sustain ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect communities.
The minister said defeating insecurity would require stronger collaboration among the Federal, state and local governments, as well as active participation by citizens through the provision of credible information to security agencies.
“We will continue to provide every necessary support to our security agencies to keep the country safe,” he said.
“I am confident that insecurity will soon become a thing of the past, allowing Nigerians to live in peace and prosperity.”
Matawalle further pledged additional Federal Government support for Kano State, including fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational equipment to strengthen security operations.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, who received the minister, thanked the Federal Government for its response and reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to collaborate with security agencies to improve safety across the state.
“At the state level, we will continue to take the necessary steps to promote security and maintain stability in Kano,” Yusuf said.
