Project Director, of the proposed Festac 10km Marathon, scheduled for the 2nd of October, in Lagos, Moses Nwanze, says his passion to re-energize the Community and further project the Festac, to the World as a Community with strong a strong-cultural value.
He made the remark at Tatiana Hotel,in Festac, venue of a media parley to inform the media about the progress and preparation for the epoch making event tagged “Festival of Fitness”.
Nwanze, said ” Festac is a Community that created a strong bond among the people who reside in the area. Despite leaving Festac, and relocating to Lekki, i still see myself as being part of the community where i spent my formative and teenage days”
He said his love for the community is the major reason behind the event, according to him, ” I want to do something for the Community that would be grand and befitting the status of Festac, an event that would stir the competitive mood in the Community known for churning out Sporting and entertainment icons for the country.
“Festac hosted the World in 1977,its 44 years after, its time for us to reposition Festac, by creating an avenue for youth empowerment within the community and Nigeria in general, the Marathon, will serve as a launch pad to prepare local athletes for the international stage.
According to Nwanze, the 10km race would be competed for by local based athletes, who stand a chance of winning a cash prize of Two million Naira, registration of athletes is in full swing as competitors have registered from all over the country.
Also in attendance, at the venue of the Press Conference were the Chief of Staff of Amuwo Odofin local government Segun Abubakar Idris, who represented the local government Chairman Dr Valentine Buraimoh, as well as the President of the resident association Shola Fakorede and the DPO Festac Police Station CSP Gboyega Balogun who stated that his Officers have being mobilized to provide security for all the competitors and residents.
The Festac 10km Marathon is an initiative of Lexicon Communications, the grand prize for the winners in the male and female category is half a million naira ,while second and third will grab the sum of Three hundred and two hundred thousand naira each.
