...Eric Chelle says he is grateful for ‘Incredible’ Opportunity to Lead Super Eagles

New Super Eagles coach Eric Sekou Chelle says he is grateful to the Nigeria Football Federation NFF for the opportunity he has been offered to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Speaking on Monday when the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially introduced him to the media as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles ,Chelle thanked his agent, the NFF, the National Sports Commission ,NSC and Nigerians as a whole for the opportunity, promising to work diligently with the team to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup.
In his words: “I am grateful to my agent, the NFF, the NSC, and all Nigerians for this tremendous opportunity. Coaching the Super Eagles is a remarkable honor, and I am fully committed to this role,” he stated.
“Football is about scoring goals, and I advocate for an attacking style. I understand the expectations and will work diligently with my team to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
Earlier at the unveiling, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, emphasized the need for unity among Nigerians in support of Chelle, assuring that the federation will provide him with the necessary resources to excel in his role.
Gusau expressed admiration for Chelle’s confidence and decisiveness during their recent discussions.
He said he is optimistic that Chelle will instill a positive and dynamic spirit in the Super Eagles as they work towards success in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
“I see in our new Head Coach a spirit and attitude conducive to elevating the Super Eagles. He views this role as his dream job, which serves as significant motivation,” Gusau stated.
“Coach Chelle is aware of the challenges ahead and is eager to embrace them. We will stand by him, providing unwavering support.”
According to Gusau, Coach Chelle has signed a two-year contract, with a possibility for an extension if he successfully leads the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Chelle will be supported by three assistants and will also oversee the Super Eagles B team, currently preparing for the upcoming 8th African Nations Championship.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko in his speech at the event expressed satisfaction with the choice of Eric Chelle and the recruitment process undertaken by the NFF.
“Football unites all Nigerians and brings joy. We are committed to ensuring that Coach Chelle has a conducive environment to thrive.
The journey to secure a World Cup spot is a collective effort, and the government is ready to provide necessary resources without interfering in the NFF’s responsibilities,” Dikko remarked.
Chelle, who previously earned five caps for Mali was born in Ivory Coast to a Malian mother and A French father. He had a distinguished playing career with several clubs especially in France.
The unveiling ceremony held at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium was attended by notable figures, including Mr. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to the President of Grassroots Sports Development, and members of the NFF Executive Committee including Dr. Muhammad Sanusi, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation.
