Drama ensued on the floor of the ENUGU STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY on Thursday when the screening of a commissioner nominee, MR MELLITUS EZEGWORIE EZE presented by GOV. IFEANYI UGWUANYI, was put on hold.
The House members had to screen four nominees, three of which were asked to take a bow for their antecedents, when the member representing EZEAGU CONSTITUENCY, CHIMA OBIEZE stood up and said that the screening of MELITUS EZEGWORIE EZE should be stopped because he was rude and unreceptive when he was the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in the last administration.
OBIEZE pointed out that EZE always walked people out of his office and even kept them waiting for long hours without attending to them while he served the state.
OBIEZE insisted that if cleared, he was not sure whether the nominee will change what he described as his “churlish and unbecoming” character.
In his words, “Mr. Chairman, Sir, I move that the screening of Chief Ezegworie be stopped so that we look into the allegation of his rudeness and highhandedness”.
The motion was supported by HON. CHINEDU OKWU, member representing ANINRI CONSTITUENCY.
The speaker of the House put the motion to question, it was carried and his screening was suspended for a later date.
