Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), BARRISTER GODWIN DUDU-ORUMEN has felicitated with the staff of the Commission and Edo State athletes on the occasion of the Workers Day.

DUDU-ORUMEN in a statement issued by NNAMDI OKOSIEME, his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, DUDU-ORUMEN thanked the staff of the Commission for partnering with him in working towards the realization of the goals of the Commission.

The ESSC boss said the support of the staff of the Commission had been pivotal in the successes attained so far noting that the existing synergy between its leadership and staff should be sustained if Edo State is to return to its place of dominance in Nigerian sports.

“Your support has been crucial to the gains attained so far. Without it we would not have made it this far. Going forward, I count on you to continue to do your best to help the Commission fulfil its mandate of turning Edo State once again into the hub of sports in this country”, DUDU-ORUMEN said.

He also saluted Edo State athletes and coaches for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifice toward making the state Nigeria’s number sporting hub. He assured them that their sacrifice would not be in vain noting that the Commission in alignment with the state government will do everything possible to ensure that they have the best facilities and equipment to prepare themselves for competitions.

“The leadership of the Commission salutes your commitment and sacrifice. Without them, we would not be one of the leading states in sports in Nigeria today. We assure you of our commitment to providing a safe and conducive atmosphere for you to excel. Everything you need to excel in so far as they are within the capacity of the Commission to provide will be made available to you”, DUDU-ORUMEN said.

DUDU-ORUMEN urged them to remain in shape and see the present lull in activities occasioned by the outbreak of the coronavirus diseases (COVID-19), as an opportunity to remain in shape and continue to prepare for the National Sports Festival, which would certainly take place once this COVID-19 incident blows over.

“I urge you to remain in shape and capitalize on the holiday presented by the outbreak of the COVID-19 to work extra hard and keep yourselves in shape so that when all this is over and the time for the National Sports Festival finally comes you will all be in top condition to emerge victorious at the end of the Games,”

DUDU-ORUMEN  however urged both staff of the Commission and athletes and coaches to abide by all existing rules as put forth by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease such as regular washing of hands, use of face masks and maintaining social distance. He said this will help keep them safe and alive.

“I implore you all to stay safe and observe the protocols relating to the containment of the disease. We have to first be alive before we can be sportsmen and administrators,” he stated.

He said he was assured by the support of the GODWIN OBASEKI administration and the commitment and dedication of staff of the Commission as well as athletes and coaches, that Edo State will emerge stronger in sports in the country in the period after the COVID-19.

“We still have a lot to accomplish at the Commission. With the plans and programmes we have put in place and with your cooperation, we know that our best days lie ahead,” he said.
